World-renowned fashion designer Elie Saab is the inspiration behind the creation of the Bachelor’s degree in fashion design at the Lebanese American University. He founded his couture atelier in Beirut in 1982, and his unique designs rapidly gained popularity in the Middle East. Global renown was soon to follow. In 1997, Saab was honored as the only non-Italian designer invited to Camera Nazionale della Moda. In 1998, he launched his ready-to-wear collection during Milan Fashion week. Since the early 2000s, he has presented two couture collections a year in Paris, and set up a flagship boutique in the heart of le Triangle d’Or in 2007.
Saab maintains his headquarters in Beirut. His ready-to-wear collections are additionally available in nearly 70 points of sale worldwide. In 2012, Saab established a secondary headquarters in Paris. His list of clients includes A-list actresses and artists in cinema, music, theater and television, who have showcased his gowns at celebrity events such as the Golden Globes, the Academy Award, and the Venice, Cabourg and Cannes Film festivals.
In 2003, Elie Saab received the title of Knight of the National Order of the Cedar as a tribute to his artistic contributions, and was elected Manager of the Year of the Alumni Association of the Superior Commercial Studies. In November 2006, Elie Saab became ‘Membre Correspondant’ of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
