José Manuel Madrigal
Chair of the Architecture & Interior Design Department
Prof. José Manuel Pagés Madrigal is the new Chair of the Department of Architecture & Interior Design, starting Fall 2013. Prof. Madrigal comes from Spain, where he completed his studies with a PhD in Urbanism in 1995, and has held several positions in Europe, among which the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Universidade Moderna in Lisbon for seven years.
He has also served as the co-coordinator of the first Architectural European PhD program QuoD (Quality of design) in collaboration with the Faculties of Architecture of IUAV-Venice, Pescara, Cosenza, Barcelona and Lisbon. He is a member of the National Academy of Fine Arts in Portugal and the Spanish ICOMOS-Unesco National Board. Dr. Madrigal has authored or co-authored a number of publications on territorial and architectural topics.
In parallel to his academic activities he has also been active professionally. He was the coordinator for the Master plan for the old city of Badajoz, Spain, and some of his projects have been recognized as in the case of the rehabilitation of a private residence in Badajoz; the Badajoz municipality in Barbezieux, and the proposal for the rehabilitation of Stephens’ glass factory.
