After Graduating from ALBA, Christian Semaan developed interests in exploring the relationship between the representation of images and the physical aspects of Architecture. His master’s degree under the supervision of Louis Martin allowed him to investigate the broader theoretical relations between architecture and philosophy. He then focused on developing the different dialectical approach between the structural frame and envelope, and the issues of representation between images and construction. Semaan’s thesis, “The Dialectic between Sign and Matter in the Conception of Appearance” investigated the evolution of this dialectical approach in different theoretical structures after 1950. He is particularly interested in the phenomenological aspects of matter and the different conceptual apparatuses that operate around the issue of Construction and Materiality.
