Authorization to practice architecture under her own name HMONP
Maria-Thala AL-ASWAD is an architect who graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais, where she obtained her Master of Architecture ADE in 2010 and the authorization to practice architecture under her own name HMONP in 2011. In 2013, she co-founded Les Architectes Workshop in Paris. In 2014, Les Architectes Workshop was granted an award by Le Pavillon de l’Arsenal, for the urban design project Un Quartier Périphérique Aérien. In 2016, the project Observatoire Cinématographique du Territoire Ouvert was selected for the second phase of the Réinventer Paris competition and exhibited at Le Pavillon de l’Arsenal.
In 2017, she taught at the IUAV in Venice and was one of the organizers of the W.A.V.E Syria the making of the future workshop. The article Aleppo, objective immersion and retreat is published in the book From Urbicide to the Architecture of the City, Incipit Editore, Italy.
Alongside her practice in architecture, Maria-Thala AL-ASWAD maintains a continuous work of creation and digital research. In 2011 and 2012, she took part of the Building Fashion and the Post-McQueen Embryos workshops organized by the Architectural Association, AA Visiting School Paris at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. In 2019, she has created The Body Architecture Laboratory in Beirut. In 2020, she established her personal course entitled Computational Body Architecture & Digital Fabrication. This course was taught at ALBA, Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, École de Mode as a multidiciplinary course and at Creative Space Beirut school of design. Since 2023, the course is part of the LAU professional elective for Fashion Design program under the name of Digital Fashion Fabrication.
