Rana is a Lebanese designer and researcher, living and working in Beirut. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a Master’s degree in Islamic Art from the Lebanese American University (LAU). Rana is currently pursuing her PhD in Arab and Islamic History at the Institute of Oriental Letters under the Doctoral School of Human and Social Sciences at USJ. Her research examines the revival of traditional Arts and crafts in the Arab Gulf, questioning whether it is a a mere reproduction of the past or a true cultural awakening. Rana had the opportunity to learn traditional arts with focus on Islamic geometry with among others, The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London and the Art of Islamic Pattern School where she joined their international trips to cultural hubs like Granada, Istanbul, and London. Rana is also the founder and director of Evibes design house, also based in Beirut and operating throughout the Middle East. Among its landmark projects, Evibes developed the visual identity for Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, a project globally recognized with awards like the Prix Versailles for the world’s most beautiful airport. This project stands as a testament to Rana’s commitment to integrate cultural heritage with contemporary design to create meaningful and enduring visual experiences. With over 20 years of experience in graphic design—specializing in branding, signage, and product design—Rana is committed to seamlessly integrating local cultural heritage with contemporary design practices. She is also a strong advocate for design education in the Arab world, emphasizing its role in empowering future generations to reclaim, innovate, and celebrate their rich visual heritage.
