Tom DeBiaso

Tom DeBiaso is an educator, artist, filmmaker and photographer.  Currently he is Professor Emeritus at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where

he retired as Director of the Master of Fine Arts Graduate Program. He established the Media Arts Department and the Master of Fine Arts degree program at MCAD and served as Dean of Studio Programs.

After graduate school, he founded the regional education and media arts access center Film in the Cities which began his lifelong commitment to teaching and the advancement of art and design education.  He is an advisory board member of SooVAC, Film North and The Minneapolis/Saint Paul Film Society. Over the past 2 decades he has been an active academic program evaluator for National Association of Colleges of Art and Design and the Higher Learning Commission.

His creative work has involved over fifty solo and group exhibitions as well as visiting artist’s presentations in a variety of venues including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Artists Space, Harvard University, and the Bauhaus Working with cultural and community groups his documentary video work promotes the mission of the organizations.

In 2012, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Independent Feature Project Minnesota for his commitment to education and the arts.
