(Re)Writing Women’s Art History In The Arab World
Gezairi building, Chafica Balaa Auditorium (GB 403), Beirut campus

The Institute of Art In The Arab World invites you to a talk by Rémi Homs, curator at the Barjeel Art Foundation, titled “Rewriting Women’s Art History in the Arab World”.
For much of the 20th century, women artists from the Arab world remained largely absent from canonical art histories. Seeking to redress this imbalance, the Sharjah-based Barjeel Art Foundation has, since 2019, pursued a gender-balance policy across its exhibitions and acquisitions. This talk presents the first outcomes of this initiative, showing how it has shaped new approaches to collecting, research, and display.
