Bridging Worlds: Art, Data & Technology: The Archive of Afaf Zurayk Presented by Rami Saab

LAU Beirut campus, Gezairi Building, Chafica Balaa Auditorium, Room 403

The IAAW invites you to The Archive of Afaf Zurayk, a presentation by Rami Saab on the collection of Lebanese American artist and writer Afaf Zurayk, now housed on The Living Archive. This digital catalogue and curatorial platform preserves nearly five decades of her work, from 1978 to the present, bringing her entire creative output together in one structured collection that pairs high-resolution images of her paintings with her poetry, prose, and sound work. Designed for curators, gallerists, collectors, and institutions, the archive safeguards an important body of regional cultural production for future generations while revealing the close ties between Zurayk’s painting and poetry.

About the artist
Afaf Zurayk has published 12 books on her art, poetry, and prose. Her work is held in the collections of the British Museum, the Barjeel Art Foundation, the Sursock Museum, and Darat al Funun, and has been reviewed in The Washington Post and L’Orient–Le Jour, among other publications. She taught art at Beirut University College (now LAU), the American University of Beirut, and George Washington University. She holds a BA in fine arts from the American University of Beirut and an MA in fine arts from Harvard University, and she is represented by Saleh Barakat Gallery.
