Resilience through Art and Design
Observed annually from 25 November to 10 December, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence is a campaign that serves to raise awareness of the urgent need to end violence against women and girls worldwide.In the campaign’s most recent edition, the Arab Institute for Women (AiW) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) focused on the theme “Uprooted: resilience in crisis”. The aim was to draw attention to the increased risks of gender-based violence that displaced women and girls face and call on the international community to prioritize their protection and increase funding for gender-based violence prevention and response programs
Five graphic design students were recognized for their unique submissions. Carly Ajemian (Abuse Knows No Age, Protect Women At Every Age), Nour Moukheiber (Voice - Veto - Violence) , and Karen Murr (Twice the struggle, twice the power to overcome) received honorable mentions for their steadfast commitment and impactful participation in underscoring the importance of raising awareness for gender based violence.
Theo Sakr (Consent Cannot be Bought) won third place, and Judy Abdallah (Uprooted but not Unbroken) second place.
Collaborations of this type between NFPA, AiW and the School of Architecture and Design help ensure that young people are engaged holistically on crucial topics, toward a more equitable and sustainable society.
