LAU Graphic Design Alumna Marie-Therese Assaf Presents Her First Published Book

The Department of Art and Design hosted a book signing event on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. at the Joseph G. Jabbra Library, LAU Byblos Campus, featuring LAU alumna Marie-Therese Assaf, BFA in Graphic Design, Class of 2025.

Assaf shared the story behind her first officially published book, Tempestuous Whispers | همسات وعاصفة —a project that began as her senior project at LAU and continued to evolve beyond graduation.

Driven by her passion for storytelling, design, and her desire to turn a deeply personal academic project into a published work, Assaf developed Tempestuous Whispers as an experimental bilingual piece that blends graphic design, typography, photography, and storytelling.

The book explores the complex and often misunderstood reality of schizophrenia, using visual language to express experiences and emotions that can be difficult to articulate through words alone. Through the project, Assaf demonstrates how graphic design can engage with sensitive social and human experiences and create space for greater understanding and empathy.

The event offered students and members of the LAU community an opportunity to learn about Assaf’s creative process, her journey from student project to published book, and the possibilities for developing design work beyond the classroom.
